What is the best way to see the wineries in Napa?
Guided or self? Bike? Shuttle? Keep in mind that we'll be drinking too much wine. Will any of the hotels offer packages with a bus? What are the best wineries to see? Any "can not miss" points?
* * The best way would be to get a car service to take you around. It can be a Towncar or a limousine. They usually include lunch. There is no public transport service, but you can try to join a tour group. Unfortunately, they can be impersonal and do not normally go to the best wineries. If it's your first time and you will decide to do it yourself, start Beringer and do the ride. Your cuvĂ©e is not very good, but the ride is the best in the valley. Your booking / tasting room library is fabulous too. Beaulieu Vineyards is a great introduction elsewhere. They often serve 5 or 6 wine tasting very cheap rate. It really gives an idea of round varieties and styles. If you like very bubbly – not Schramsberg be wasted. It's only reservation, and you have to do a tour (but the ride is great), but you get like 5 sheds full of sparkle. Even the bottles $ 75 is disposed. They are a large wine cellar with fabulous. I also recommend Raymond – underrated wines that are always tasty. Grgich is a hysteria mass, sometimes poorly, but several of their wines are worth. Sterling has a tram that goes up one of the hills, but it's like $ 15 per person and wine is not very good. Opus One is overrated in my book (and many wine magazines), so I think its a $ 25 tasting is better spent somewhere like Silver Oak Heels or deer (for wine-end). Mondavi is a nice place, but the weather is terrible. It is loaded with tour buses and tour groups. When I was there, everyone was pushing and shoving and not respecting personal space. I will not be back. Rubicon / Coppola is now $ 25 per person to enter the field. It includes museum Coppola movie, but I do not know who sent the wine that kind of rate. I'm not a fan of Clos Pegase, but the grounds are incredibly beautiful. Andretti not do it for me too, but is a cool place. The Wine Train does not really stop anywhere for you to land and taste. It's just a train ride you you can dine and wine, if you choose. You should also check napavalley.com to take a look at some of the wineries and pick up some discount coupons. They have tons 2 for 1 tastings there that you can save a ton of money. Good luck to you and have fun!
